Isolation of Mammalian Cells and Colonization of Implant Blanks
Zellwerk produces cell formulations or colo-nized implant blanks for clinical and research use according to your specifications. Depen-ding on the customers requirements all pro-cedures are either conducted under stringent quality control measures following cGMP- and cGCP-standards or in less costly experimental environments. Culturing in rotating bed bio-reactors has proven as superior way to generate large amounts of primary mammalian (human) cells. Up to 1010 viable cells can be isolated from long-term cultivation runs in a Z® RP Bioreactor.
Sponceram® discs after long-term cultivation of a human liver cell line in Z® RP Bioreactor, density coated with a layer of cells and ECM.
Zellwerk´s client service comprises extraction of primary cells from tissue samples, cell type selection, expansion, harvesting and transfer into a stable cell formulation. Validated proto-cols for enzymatic extraction, characterisa-tion, cultivation and isolation of several cell types were developed.

The following examples, performed at Zell-werk´s labs, are of clinical interest: Tissue-like grown human hepatocytes can serve as a model for an artificial liver (see images). Human ceratinocytes, forming skin-like multi-layer structures when colonized on our spiral-shaped rotating bed (see products), offer an advantageous way to produce larger human skingrafts .
